A tragic incident on Udaipur-Killar road, Lahaul-Spiti district, resulted in the death of 13 people after their vehicle was crushed by a falling boulder. Rescue operations are ongoing.
In Himachal Pradesh's Lahaul-Spiti district, a vehicle was tragically crushed by a massive boulder that tumbled down from a hillside on the Udaipur-Killar road this afternoon. According to Deputy Commissioner and Chairperson of the District Disaster Management Authority, Kiran Bhadana, the vehicle carried 13 passengers, including the driver, all of whom lost their lives in the accident.
Immediately after receiving information about the incident, the district administration, police, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), and other concerned agencies promptly initiated rescue and relief operations. The process of identifying the deceased is currently underway, with official confirmation awaited for more details.
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has expressed deep grief over the tragedy and has instructed the Deputy Commissioner of Lahaul-Spiti to personally supervise the rescue operations. He also extended assistance to the families of the deceased.
Beyond Himachal Pradesh, notable figures such as President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President C P Radhakrishnan, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Jagat Prakash Nadda, Leader of the Opposition Jai Ram Thakur, and former Union Minister Anurag Singh Thakur have also expressed profound grief over the accident and conveyed their condolences to the bereaved families.
