Three individuals affiliated with the Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad were detained on Friday for assaulting participants of a book-reading event in Ahmedabad, resulting in two injuries.
On Friday, three individuals purportedly connected to Hindutva organizations, including the Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad, were apprehended by authorities for attacking participants at a book-reading session in Ahmedabad. The incident left two people injured. According to PTI, this event took place at Vastrapur Park where an assortment of books was available for attendees to read.
The attackers were reportedly carrying hockey sticks and saffron flags while shouting 'Jai Shree Ram' and allegedly abusing the participants. The motivation behind the assault appeared to be objection towards a memoir by Malala Yousafzai, Nobel Peace Prize laureate and Pakistani education activist, titled 'I Am Malala'.
As per Vastrapur Police Station Inspector GM Chaudhary, approximately 20 individuals, including women, had gathered for the reading session when they were ambushed by a group of around 18 to 20 people claiming to be members of the two Hindutva groups. The police have registered a first information report in this matter.
Two accused individuals were recognized among the participants, while six others have been identified. Three of these individuals have already been taken into custody, as stated by PTI.
