The Vice President inaugurated the centenary celebrations of former Karnataka Chief Minister Ramakrishna Hegde, who is remembered for his advocacy for decentralisation, three-tier governance and strong federalism.
On March 29, Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan inaugurated the centenary celebrations of former Karnataka Chief Minister Ramakrishna Hegde at a function in Bengaluru. During his address, the Vice President highlighted Hegde's commitment to decentralisation and strengthening of the Lokayukta. He also emphasised that Hegde considered public office as a stewardship of trust, believing in local governance and citizen participation through gram sabhas and panchayats.
The Vice President added that a meaningful tribute to Hegde's legacy would be the imbibing of his democratic values and model of good governance. The event was attended by various dignitaries including Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi, and former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu.
