Murshidabad district completes land handover for fencing along the India-Bangladesh border, marking the first such completion in West Bengal.
The district administration of Murshidabad in West Bengal has completed the process of handing over 100% of required land to the Border Security Force (BSF) for constructing fencing along the India-Bangladesh border. Recently, an additional 28.65 acres were handed over through a 'Right of Possession' for fortifying a 3.86-kilometre stretch in Char Chandanpur and Hazrahati Mirganj. In total, 334.24 acres have been transferred to the BSF for fencing approximately 48 kilometres of the border in the district. This development follows the state government's decision to relinquish around 1,025 acres across nine districts bordering Bangladesh for constructing border fences and BSF outposts.
According to administrative sources, Murshidabad has been prioritized for border fencing due to its status as a significant 'safe route' for infiltrators from Bangladesh in recent years.
