The Bihar Police have arrested three individuals in connection with an alleged assault on a minor girl and her male friend, as videos of the incident went viral online. The incident occurred on September 19 and no complaint was made until Sunday.
On Monday, the Bihar Police announced that they have taken action against three persons who allegedly harassed and assaulted a minor girl and her male friend in Jamui district. According to the police, the suspects were identified from videos widely shared on social media platforms. The videos show the boy riding a two-wheeler with the girl seated behind him, while a group of men surround them on a dimly lit road and question their relationship. One man can be seen slapping the boy and demanding they contact their families. In other videos, several men are seen chasing the two minors, with one man grabbing and lifting the girl while the boy tries to pull her away. The boy is then seen being pulled by his collar by another man.
Jamui Superintendent of Police Bishwajeet Dayal confirmed that the incident took place on September 19 and no complaint was made until Sunday, when the videos went viral. He added that the arrested persons were minors while the other suspects were being identified through the videos.
The three minors have been booked under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita relating to assaulting a woman with intent to outrage her modesty and using criminal force with intent to disrobe her, as well as under sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. A Special Investigation Team has been formed to probe the case further.
Earlier in the day, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi expressed concern over the incident, asking why the suspects were 'not behind bars yet' when the incident had taken place on Saturday.
