The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation has released a strategy document titled 'Strategy for Environmental Economic Accounts in India: 2026-2030'. The document aims to provide a roadmap for the development of environmental accounting in India, covering new subjects or enhancements in existing ones.
The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) has been following the System of Environmental-Economic Accounting (SEEA), endorsed by the United Nations Statistical Commission. Since 2018, MoSPI has been working on various aspects of environmental accounts, including Material Flow Accounts (MFAs), Ocean Accounts, Energy Accounts, and Thematic Accounts for Biodiversity and Urban Areas. In order to effectively measure and monitor the vast domain of environment accounting, MoSPI has released a strategy document titled 'Strategy for Environmental Economic Accounts in India 2026–2030'. This document is an extension of the earlier document and aims to cover new subjects or enhance the scope of existing ones. The areas selected are mainly based on recommendations in the report of 'Green National Account in India A Framework' and the SEEA-CF framework.
