Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Deputy Governor Rohit Jain addressed the 13th SBI Banking & Economics Conclave 2026 in Mumbai, where he emphasized that technology is no longer merely an enabler of banking but is increasingly becoming part of banks’ risk architecture. The deputy governor pointed out that technology is now embedded in critical banking functions such as core banking, payments, customer onboarding, credit assessment, fraud monitoring, and regulatory reporting.
Mr Jain also discussed artificial intelligence (AI), stating that it can enhance customer service, improve fraud detection, and boost productivity. However, he warned of potential issues, including the amplification of errors and the influence on decisions related to credit, fraud alerts, customer access, pricing, and service delivery.
