Shri Giriraj Singh visits TRF, stresses recycling and digital platform development, commends collective initiative.

On the occasion of the Foundation Day of the Textiles Committee on Saturday, 22 August 2026, Union Minister of Textiles Shri Giriraj Singh visited the Textile Recovery Facility (TRF) in Navi Mumbai. During his visit, he reviewed the facility's textile waste recovery operations and emphasised the need to strengthen recycling and circularity across the textile value chain. A Letter of Intent (LoI) was signed between the Textiles Committee and Refibre for developing a digital circular textile infrastructure platform aimed at collection, traceability, and impact measurement of Post-Textile Consumption (PTC).

Interacting with the project partners, Shri Giriraj Singh advised greater focus on recycling textile products to reduce dependence on natural resources. He also suggested expanding the project beyond the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) area.

The Minister appreciated the collective initiative of the Textiles Committee, NMMC, SBI Foundation, and Tisser Artisan Trust in undertaking collection, sorting, upcycling, and recycling efforts under the project. He also commended the adoption of technology developed by Kosha for segregation of clothes by fibre group.

Shri Giriraj Singh emphasised that building robust textile recovery frameworks is critical to achieving India’s climate commitments and establishing the country as a global hub for sustainable textile manufacturing. During the visit, the Minister inspected the facility's end-to-end processing operations, including automated sorting, fibre identification, shredding, and secondary material recovery streams.

During the visit, the following dignitaries were present: Development Commissioner (Handlooms) Dr. M. Beena, Textile Commissioner and Vice Chairperson, Textiles Committee Smt. Vrunda Manohar Desai, NMMC Commissioner Shri Kailas Shinde, Deputy Mayor Shri Dashrath Bhagat, Director (MR) and Project Coordinator (TRF), Textiles Committee Dr. Tapan Kumar Rout, and Founder, Tisser Artisan Trust Dr. Megha Phansalkar.
